Dubrovnik is a beautiful historical city which is situated at the very south of Croatia. It is called the pearl of the Adriatic Sea and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia. The historical centre of Dubrovnik is under the protection of UNESCO. A good way of arranging transfer from Split airport to the city of Dubrovnik is to book a private transfer in advance. Here you will find a few guidelines which might be helpful.

There are several routes from Split airport to Dubrovnik and no matter which company you choose for your transfer, the driver should know which route is most suitable on the day of your transfer.

Route 1: this route comprises the coastal road. If you take this route it will take you 4 – 4.30 hours to get to Dubrovnik, depending on the traffic. The advantage of taking this route is that you get to see the beauties of the coast as well as some of the Croatian islands. At a certain place, about 60 km north of Dubrovnik, you will have to pass through Bosnia and Herzegovina, so don’t forget to bring your passport.

Route 2: on this route you take the highway at Prgomet which is 15 km (17 minutes) away from the Split airport. The highway from Prgomet to the exit Ravča is about 142 km long which you could pass in about 1 hour and 35 minutes. From the Ravča exit there are 10 km to Ploče and about 100 km to Dubrovnik. As well as in route 1, you will have to pass through Bosnia and Herzegovina.

So to take this route it would take you about 3 – 3.30 hours to get to Dubrovnik.

There is an alternative route which includes taking a ferry in Ploče across the peninsula of Pelješac to Dubrovnik, but this route is not used very much.

Route 3: this route is almost the same as the second one. The only difference is that  you take the highway in Dugopolje which is 30 km (35 minutes) away from the airport in Split. Everything else is the same.

From personal experince, the best route to take is the first one because you get to see the beauties of the whole coast, but of course if you are not in a hurry or if the traffic is not heavy.
